Our story
Listen to Noël in a 5 min interview on Radio New Zealand 2024
We spent 8 years living in Asia, the birthplace of Black Garlic, where it is enjoyed everyday for nutritional benefits. However, our first tasting experience of Black Garlic was 40 mins from our New Zealand home, at the local market in Nelson, New Zealand. That's where we met Ralph who made Black Garlic paste. It was delicious, unique, and we learned about the great health benefits for the first time!
In 2019 while living overseas, we heard that Ralph was looking for a buyer before closing up shop. Unwilling to let New Zealand's best Black Garlic fade into the sunset, we threw caution to the wind and bought Ralph's oven and recipe. We moved home to our property on Neudorf Road, Upper Moutere in December 2019, excited to begin making Black Garlic under the brand Neudorf Black.
We welcome visitors to our premises by appointment. Please see our homepage for what you can expect from a visit to our place.
Moutere Artisans
Neudorf Road and the Moutere region is home to a collective of talented artisans. The Moutere Artisans hold open days twice a year - April and October - where we open the gates to our properties and invite the public in to learn, enjoy, and buy. Find out about our next Open Day on the Moutere Artisans website.
Certified Carbon Friendly
Neudorf Black is proud to be certified Carbon Friendly with Ekos.
Every December, our birthday month, we offset our business’s 12 months operational emissions with certified carbon credits. These offsets grow and protect forests in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and help to deliver climate resilience, waterways protection, erosion control, biodiversity conservation and community economic development.
Our power provider is also a certified CarboNZero provider. We drive a PHEV around the country to food shows. Our packaging is always a conscious choice and we are constantly looking for ways to lighten our footprint on the earth.
