We spent 8 years living in Asia, the birthplace of Black Garlic, where it is still enjoyed everyday for nutritional benefits. However, our first tasting experience of Black Garlic was 40 mins from our New Zealand home, at the local market in Nelson, New Zealand. It was delicious, unique, and we learned about the great health benefits for the first time!
In 2019 while living overseas, we heard that the Nelson producer was looking for a buyer before closing up shop. Unwilling to let New Zealand's best Black Garlic fade into the sunset, we threw caution to the wind and bought their oven and recipe. We moved home to our property on Neudorf Road, Upper Moutere in December 2019, and began making Black Garlic in 2020.
We welcome visitors to our premises by prior appointment only. Please email or phone with at least 48 hours notice to see if we are home to welcome you. Groups are welcome. For a small fee we can provide tours of our Black Garlic kitchen and a black garlic tasting experience.
Neudorf Road and the Moutere region are home to a collective of talented artisans. The Moutere Artisans hold open days twice a year - April and October - where we open the gates to our properties and invite the public in to learn, enjoy, and buy. Every year we offset our business’s 12 months operational emissions with certified carbon credits.
